Throughout the elbow, wrist, and hand there are several nerves that innervate movement and provide sensation. These nerves can become compressed by their surrounding tissues. This is called entrapment and is often related to repetitive or prolonged motion, swelling and inflammation. Compressed nerves can cause loss of function, tingling, numbness, pain, and discomfort. When non-surgical forms of relief do not work, surgical intervention can be taken to decompress the nerve.

At TOP Plastic Surgery Centre our board-certified surgeons can properly diagnose and determine if surgery is needed. Once the associated pressures of nerve decompression are alleviated, patients find relief of symptoms and can return to activity with little to no pain and discomfort.

Carpal Tunnel Release

Carpal tunnel syndrome is a condition that affects the median nerve. This nerve, along with other tendons runs through a tight tunnel on the front of your wrist. When this tunnel becomes too tight it can put pressure on the nerve, resulting in carpal tunnel syndrome. A Carpal Tunnel Release is used to relieve this pressure and alleviate symptoms for patients.

Carpal Tunnel Release can be performed at the TOP Plastic Surgery Centre. Our accredited surgical facility offers state of the art technology for this procedure. Board-certified plastic surgeons will be responsible for your care.

Symptoms of carpal tunnel include:

  • Burning, tingling, or numbness in palm of hand or thumb
  • Pain in index and middle fingers
  • Shooting pains that move into your fingers
  • Tingling that moves up into your arm
  • Weak grip and loss of strength

Guyon Canal Release

Guyon’s canal syndrome affects the ulnar nerve. The ulnar nerve runs along the little finger side of the hand and is responsible for initiating muscle contraction and sensation. When this nerve becomes compressed in a small canal, located in the wrist, called the Guyon Canal, it can cause irritating symptoms for patients. A Guyon Canal Release can be performed to release the nerve from pressure and alleviate symptoms.

At TOP Plastic Surgery Centre, we offer many different release surgeries including Guyon Canal Release. This condition can present similarly to other conditions such as Carpal Tunnel. Our board-certified plastic surgeons will be able to properly assess and treat your condition.

During your surgery a small incision will be made to access the Ulnar nerve and locate the structures causing pain and discomfort. Patients leave with minimal scarring and symptoms alleviated after a full recovery.

Symptoms include:

  • Feeling of pins and needles in the ring and little fingers
  • Tingling in the morning that may progress to a burning pain in the wrist and hand
  • Decreased sensation in the ring and little fingers
  • Pain and discomfort in the wrist
  • Loss of strength

Cubital Tunnel Release

Cubital Tunnel Syndrome refers to irritation and entrapment of the ulnar nerve as it passes through the inside of the elbow. This is the most common entrapment of the ulnar nerve. Entrapment can also occur in other places along the wrist and hand. A Cubital Tunnel Release targets entrapment at the elbow to release pressure or compression and alleviate symptoms for patients.

Cubital Tunnel Release can be performed at TOP Plastic Surgery Centre. We offer quick appointment times with board certified plastic surgeons.

Common symptoms of Cubital Tunnel Syndrome include:

  • Numbness and tingling in the ring finger and little finger
  • Pain along the inside of the elbow and forearm
  • Irritation when the elbow is in a bent position for a prolonged period
  • A “clicking” sensation over the inside of your elbow during movement
  • Hand weakness and difficulty gripping
